Viking preview: Beaten in Germany
Viking began their UEFA Champions League league phase campaign with a 3-1 defeat to Stuttgart last month in a game in which they did peg Stuttgart back to 1-1 after 22 minutes via captain Zlatko Tripic before being eased past at the VfB Stadion.
Viking qualified for the UEFA Champions League by defeating Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb in the play-off round in August but, even with confirmation of qualification for Europe’s elite competition, they still then sold key man Edvin Austbo to West Ham United, albeit they kept hold of Henrik Falchener.
Bayern Munich preview: Victory against Norwegians
Bayern Munich began their campaign in this competition by hammering Viking’s compatriots Bodo/Glimt at the Allianz Arena; held until the 47th minute before eventually going through the gears and winning by five goals to nil in Bavaria.
Bayern were again, though, a bit underwhelming at the weekend as they needed to come from behind twice to share a 2-2 draw with Augsburg, with Harry Kane providing a brace of assists for Bayern.
Viking team news: A few injuries
Viking are dealing with a few issues for this one as Sondre Bjorshol remains sidelined alongside Anders Baertelsen and Martin Ove, while Nick D’Agostino and Veton Berisha are doubtful, too.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Ostbo; Heggheim, Stensness, Daland, Haugen; Moi, Bell, Askilsden; Bjordal, Christiansen, Tripic
Unavailable: Bjorshol (Injured), Ove (Injured), Baertelsen (Injured)
Questionable: D’Agostino (Injured), Berisha (Injured)
Bayern Munich team news: Laimer a doubt
Konrad Laimer suffered an injury against Augsburg and so he is now a doubt for this one. Jamal Musiala recovered from his neurological issues suffered in pre-season but he is now sidelined due to a thigh issue picked up over the international break.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Stanisic, Upamecano, Ito, Davies; Kimmich, Pavlovic; Olise, Saibari, Diaz; Kane
Unavailable: Buchmann (Injured), Musiala (Injured)
Questionable: Laimer (Injured)
Viking vs Bayern Munich prediction
Viking will want to use their often extreme home advantage up in Norway but it is still a bit milder than they may ideally want. They will still try and get up and after Bayern here. Bayern have been less convincing than they were last year and yet they have still scored 27 goals in eight matches across all competitions thus far – and so they should still ease themselves to quite a comfortable victory at the Lyse Arena in Stavanger.
Viking vs Bayern Munich Tip: Bayern Munich to win -1 handicap
