Atalanta preview: ‘Sarri-ball’ in Bergamo

After needing two managers to finish in the UEFA Europa Conference League after losing Gian Piero Gasperini last summer, former Chelsea and Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri has experienced a mixed start to the campaign for Atalanta this time around.

The Bergamasci headed into the international break on the back of three successive defeats against Roma, Cagliari and then Juventus with the pressure perhaps already growing on Sarri.

Venezia preview: Poor start

Venezia begin the sixth match day of the 2026-27 Serie A season sitting rock-bottom with five defeats from five and the only pointless team in the top-flight following their promotion and fairly big summer of spending.

The Venetians have stuck by Giovanni Stroppa. They did show some enterprise before the break with a 3-2 loss to Frosinone and a 4-2 defeat to Fiorentina before the break before an underwhelming 2-0 defeat at home to Lazio.

Atalanta team news: A few injuries

Isak Hien is working his way back to fitness after an injury at the FIFA World Cup, while the likes of Odilon Kossounou and Giacomo Raspadori remain sidelined for the hosts.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Carnesecchi; Bellanova, Scalvini, Kristensen, Bernasconi; Samardzic, Kessie, Ederson; De Ketelaere, Krstovic, Rowe

Unavailable: Kossounou (Injured), Raspadori (Injured)

Questionable: Hien (Fitness), Sulemana (Injured)

Venezia team news: Plenty of injuries

Venezia head to Bergamo with some fresh injuries for this one as both Pasquale Mazzocchi and Ridgeciano Haps are now doubtful with the likes of Gio Busio and Toma Basic confirmed absentees.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Stankovic; Schingtienne, Juan, Matias Moreno; Hainaut, Kike Perez, Sohm, Helgason, Correia; John Yeboah, Adams

Unavailable: Franjic (Injured), Busio (Injured)

Questionable: Bella-Kotchap (Fitness), Sverko (Fitness), Haps (Injured), Mazzocchi (Injured), Basic (Fitness), Adorante (Fitness), Dagasso (Fitness)

Atalanta vs Venezia prediction

Atalanta have the home advantage and so will be expected to get themselves on the front foot. The Bergamasci have suffered teething issues due to his complicated style of football and that has led them to score just five goals in five games. Venezia will fancy themselves on the counter-attack and so both teams scoring would appear a decent bet and so Atalanta will have to be viewed as favourites with their home advantage.

Atalanta vs Venezia tip: Atalanta to win & both teams to score
