Tabatha Ricci: “Baby Shark” the undersized veteran walking into a stylistic nightmare

Tabatha Ricci (12-4) is a grappler, a black belt in both BJJ and Judo who has carved out a ranked spot at 115 despite being one of the smallest fighters in the division at 5’1”. The Brazilian owns notable wins over Angela Hill and a second round TKO of Amanda Ribas, though she’s coming off a loss to Virna Jandiroba. Ricci tends to come forward behind blitzing straight shots rather than technical setups, an approach that’s worked against some names but leaves her very predictable and hittable. Her best route in fights runs through her grappling, but she gives up serious size and reach in this one in particular.

Fatima Kline: “The Archangel” is a surgical striker with a physical edge

Fatima Kline (9-1) has been one of the most impressive risers at strawweight, rattling off finishes and dominant showings since a short-notice debut loss. The New Yorker knocked out Dudakova with elbows and earned a Performance of the Night for a head-kick KO of Melissa Martinez, before thoroughly outclassing veteran gatekeeper Angela Hill over three rounds. A grappler by base who’s evolved into a crisp dynamic striker, Kline strings together clean boxing combinations, mixes in kicks and knees, switches stances in combinations, and defends behind a tight cross guard with good head movement. Her only loss was at flyweight, in a grappling heavy fight against Jasmine Jasudavicius.

Tabatha Ricci vs Fatima Kline prediction

Their shared opponent frames this fight very well. Both women beat Angela Hill, the division’s long time gatekeeper, but the manner tells the tale. Ricci edged out a competitive decision, while Kline absolutely dominated Hill for fifteen minutes straight. That gap in dominance over a common measuring stick is hard to ignore.

Everything else points the same way. Kline is bigger, longer, and levels above in the striking department, with roughly five inches of height and six inches of reach to work with. Ricci’s forward blitzes are exactly the kind of predictable entry a fighter with Kline’s timing and fight IQ will punish, and I expect Kline to sit down heavy on a counter as Ricci charges in. Those fast head kicks should be there all night against a much shorter target too. Ricci is simply too small and too outgunned on the feet to win a striking match here.

Then there is the grappling, and even that door seems pretty shut. Ricci’s credentials are real, but she doesn’t have the raw wrestling to takedown Kline and keep her there, and Kline’s scrambling has consistently gotten her back on the feet. It’s odd to see Ricci at this price given the fact she’s faced high ranked fighters and wasn’t even that big an underdog compared to this fight, but the price seems about right, this is a bad stylistic and physical match up across the board.

Prediction: Fatima Kline to win
