Nurullo Aliev: The undefeated "Tajik Eagle" aims to preserve his perfect record
Undefeated in eleven professional fights, Nurullo Aliev (11-0) didn’t face a great deal of adversity in his last fight, comfortably handling Shem Rock to earn a unanimous decision. He’s 3-0 in the promotion, with his other victories coming over Joe Solecki and Rafael Alves, although he’s fought just three times since earning a contract on the Contender Series all the way back in 2022. A smothering wrestler, it’s no secret what the “Tajik Eagle” wants to do in his fights; namely, maintain top position and fire away with GNP. The only real knock against Aliev outside his inactivity is his finishing potential; he’s only scored two stoppages in more than ten fights as a pro.
Mike Davis: "Beast Boy" returns in the hopes of securing back-to-back victories
One of the more unsung tough outs in the lightweight division, Mike Davis (12-3) returns following a second round TKO over Mitch Ramirez last July. A powerful, rangy kickboxer with clean shot selection and underrated grappling, the 33 year old American has been on the UFC roster since 2019, going 5-2 with three finishes in that time, a run that included a barnburner decision victory over the surging Mason Jones. However, much like his latest opponent, Davis’ UFC run has been blighted by inactivity following multiple injuries and fight cancellations; “Beast Boy” has also only fought three times since 2022.
Nurullo Aliev vs Mike Davis prediction
We’re leaning towards Aliev in this matchup. The “Tajik Eagle” has never been a particularly dangerous finisher, but he’s a superb control grappler with an ability to dictate his fights through smothering wrestling.
Many had Davis pegged for big things when he spoiled Mason Jones’ UFC debut back in 2020, but injuries and extended periods of time on the sidelines have slowed “Beast Boy’s” hype train to a considerable degree. Moreover, his two UFC losses have both come against fighters who were able to out grapple him. Gilbert Burns submitted him in his 2019 UFC debut, while Fares Ziam successfully mixed in takedowns to earn a decision over Davis last February.
That’s not the best sign when faced with a stylistic matchup like Aliev. Davis is a slick striker and will be dangerous in the early goings; I wouldn’t even be surprised to see him throwing up submissions from his back during the early stages. However, considering that he throws quite wide when he’s trying to land his power shots, he’s wide open for takedowns. I think that Aliev is eventually going to get him down and to stay in top position for most of the fight, landing GNP with enough consistency to earn him the decision victory.
Prediction: Nurullo Aliev to win by decision
