It has been a slow start to the season for Toulouse as they take on a strong Lille side to Stadium de Toulouse on match day three of the 2026-27 Ligue 1 campaign.

Toulouse preview: Slow starters

Toulouse have collected just one point from their last two matches in Ligue 1. The hosts began with a 2-0 defeat at home to Olympique Lyonnais before conceding a last gasp equaliser at Stade Francis-Le Ble against Stade Brest in an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Over the summer, Toulouse lost manager Carlos Martinez Novell and replaced him with Jens Berthel Askou, who led Motherwell to the UEFA Europa Conference League in the Scottish Premiership last year – and teething issues are clear at the moment.

Lille preview: Impressive Lille

Lille also made a change in the dugout with Bruno Genesio departing for Olympique de Marseille and he has been replaced by Davide Ancelotti, the son of Carlo Ancelotti, who was most recently a part of his father’s coaching staff with Brazil at FIFA World Cup 2026.

Last weekend, the northerners were 2-0 up late on against defending champions Paris Saint-Germain before being pegged back to a 2-2 in stoppage-time. That came after they had started their campaign with a 2-0 victory against Angers at Stade Raymond Kopa.

Toulouse team news: Francis out

Abu Francis was set to take on an even more important role in midfield for Toulouse this summer but he is now sidelined for a while after suffering a hamstring injury against Brest last week.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Restes; Diallo, McKenzie, Nicolaisen, Tape; Cristian Casseres Jr, Vossah; Vignolo, Jorgensen, Gboho; Russell-Rowe

Unavailable: Francis (Injured)

Questionable: Donnum (Fitness)

Lille team news: Change in Lille

Lille do head to Toulouse with some key changes in their squad as Matias Fernandez-Pardo has completed a big money move to Newcastle United, while Felix Correia has moved on loan to Sevilla.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Ozer; Santos, Ngoy, Alexsandro, Perraud; Andre, Bentaleb; Mbappe, Haraldsson, Bakwa; Giroud

Unavailable: Igamane (Injured)

Questionable: Nianzou (Fitness)

Toulouse vs Lille prediction

Toulouse did show signs of improvement in attack last weekend, which was something that was frustratingly inconsistent under Carlos Martinez Novell. The sheer upheaval has clearly caused some issues, though, with the manager being followed out of the door by Charlie Cresswell, Djibril Sidibe, Warren Kamanzi, Dayann Methalie, Frank Magri and Emersonn. Lille took a risk on Ancelotti this summer but it has been an impressive start and they should be the team to be sided with for this one on Thursday.

Toulouse vs Lille tip: Double chance – Lille to win or draw
