THE PREDICTION
Both Emma Navarro and Yue Yuan will set new career-high WTA world rankings, of 30th and 61st, respectively, after reaching the Hobart International semi-finals. 22-year-old Navarro came back from a set down for the second time this week to beat Viktoriya Tomova but she has thoroughly impressed in rolling her late strong form from last season into 2024, reaching this stage of the Auckland Classic last week before defeat to eventual champion Coco Gauff. 25-year-old Yuan has similarly managed to continue her rise up the rankings from late last season, where she reached a maiden WTA final to finish runner-up to Jessica Pegula at the Korea Open, and she has looked excellent in much tougher results over Yulia Putintseva, Sloane Stephens and fourth seed Xinyu Wang.
Navarro has beaten Yuan twice off of the tour but this first meeting at this level could go either way with some serious form between them. Back Navarro to win at least a set with the more consistent level so far in 2024 to leave the victor up to chance.
