THE PREDICTION

26-year-old Alejandro Tabilo is enjoying a brilliant breakthrough season on tour, bringing a career-high ATP world ranking of 32nd into Rome after winning the Provence Challenger last weekend. The Chilean began 2024 as the shock victor of a wide-open Auckland Classic to claim his maiden ATP title but he proved that no fluke with a run to the Chile Open final in February, finishing runner-up to Sebastian Baez after an excellent comeback over Corentin Moutet. Steady progress since suggests he is the slight favourite against clay specialist Yannick Hanfmann but the German found the form of his career this time last season to reach the quarter-finals in Rome, needing eventual champion Daniil Medvedev to oust him after shock wins over Andrey Rublev and Taylor Fritz.

32-year-old Hanfmann avenged a first round defeat to Jakub Mensik in Madrid two weeks ago with a consummate victory over the up-and-coming Czech on Wednesday. Tabilo beat an out-of-sorts Hanfmann comfortably in Buenos Aires back in February but this should come a lot closer. Take the Chilean to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.

TIP: ALEJANDRO TABILO TO WIN A SET
