THE PREDICTION

18-year-old Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva claimed her first ever Masters victory on Wednesday with a straight-sets result over Lin Zhu justifying her wildcard selection. The Andorran won the Australian Open Girls’ champion in 2020 as the youngest player in the draw and she made the last eight at Roland-Garros a year later to show an early efficacy for all surfaces. Kasintseva should receive a home-from-home backing here in Madrid as the sever underdog but this looks too steep of a challenge against in-form Jasmine Paolini, who brings a career-high WTA world ranking of 13th into the draw. The 28-year-old stunned the field to win the Dubai Masters title in February and she reached the quarter-finals in Stuttgart last week to prove her credentials on clay, taking eventual champion Elena Rybakina to three sets before defeat. Back Paolini to be far too dialled-in to suffer an upset, with the Italian likely to take this in straight sets.

TIP: JASMINE PAOLINI TO WIN 2-0
