THE PREDICTION

World number 25 Tallon Griekspoor beat Emil Ruusuvuori in straight sets on Wednesday for a solid start to the Stockholm Open. The 27-year-old is the second-highest remaining seed in the draw after defending champion Holger Rune crashed out of the round of 16 and everyone in the last eight has at least a slight claim to be a title contender. Not least world number 109 Pavel Kotov, who qualified well this weekend before an excellent comeback over Christopher Eubanks. The Russian backed that up with a brilliant straight-sets win over Lorenzo Sonego, who is strong indoors, on Wednesday to reach a rare quarter-final at tour level. A three-set defeat to eventual champion Alexander Zverev at the Chengdu Open last month suggested Kotov’s level was on the rise whilst Griekspoor results coming into Stockholm looked like depreciating. Three sets seem likelier than two here but back the Dutchman to just edge through with some great experience at this level this season.
