World number 63 Tallon Griekspoor made it five wins on the spin with a straight-sets result over Pavel Kotov on Monday, continuing his fine form from winning his maiden ATP title at the Pune Open. The 26-year-old impressed here last season with a blistering win over Fabio Fognini before an epic five-set defeat to Pablo Carreno Busta and his affinity for the conditions in Melbourne could well see him provide the upset here against fellow Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp. World number 34 Van de Zandschulp needed four sets to oust an admittedly tough foe in Ilya Ivashka but the 27-year-old has been a little more fallible in recent months after a fabulous breakthrough on tour in 2021 eventually saw him lose out to Daniil Medvedev in the quarter-finals of the US Open. The 32nd seed remains the favourite over five sets, winning four of his five full-length Grand Slam matches since the start of 2021, but Griekspoor is in good enough form to be cautious here.
