THE LOWDOWN

SIMONA HALEP

This will be a fifth Wimbledon quarter-final for 2019 champions Simona Halep – the only former winner remaining in the women’s draw – and the manner in which she easily dismissed the in-form Paula Badosa in the fourth round is an ominous sign for the rest of the field.

AMANDA ANISIMOVA

Amanda Anisimova’s excellent year has continued at Wimbledon as, after reaching the fourth round at both the Australian Open and the French Open she has so far gone one better here in what is comfortably her best showing in the tournament.

THE PREDICTION

Both players were impressive straight-sets winners in their respective fourth-round encounters but Halep’s was the most devastating and the diminutive Romanian is looking in fine form as she chases down a first Grand Slam title since winning here in 2019. In fact, the former world number one hasn’t lost a match at Wimbledon for four years (she was absent last year) and she is playing like she knows it. If you couple that with the fact that she beat Anisimova rather easily in Germany a few weeks ago, then she looks to be the clear favourite to make the semi-finals.
