World number 24 Adrian Mannarino and number 42 Roman Safiullin should be considered title contenders in Stockholm after defending champion Holger Rune crashed out of the draw on Wednesday. 35-year-old Mannarino is now the highest seed at second and his two ATP 250 titles this season, four overall, give him the experience required to ride his luck this week. 26-year-old Safiullin has impressed pretty much since his career-best run to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in July as he finally looks ready to realise his potential as a former junior star. The Russian beat Thiago Seyboth Wild in straight sets to build some momentum in Stockholm but Mannarino won their previous encounter from a set down at the Kremlin Cup back in 2021 and he has improved a lot since then – both of them have.
