THE PREDICTION

World number 62 Roberto Carballes Baena is at his best this time of year on his favoured clay but he will be disappointed to have lost to Alexander Bublik from a set up last time out in Madrid. The 31-year-old almost defended his Marrakech Open title, falling foul of a briefly resurgent Matteo Berrettini in the final early last month, but he impressed in Barcelona to suggest he will be a tough draw for most players in typical clay conditions here in Rome. World number 66 Christopher O’Connell is a solid threat on all surfaces but he has struggled with the transition from hardcourt to clay so far this year, fabulously reaching the round of 16 at the Miami Open in March but losing each of his last three since to bring a four-match losing streak into Rome. RCB should have too much experience in these conditions to lose but three sets are not out of the question. Take the Spaniard to win outright.

TIP: ROBERTO CARBALLES BAENA TO WIN
