THE PREDICTION

World number 25 Roberto Bautista Agut is the top seed at the Gstaad Open but the Spaniard could probably have done without the bye to the round of 16 as he continues to struggle with form. The 35-year=old started 2023 off on fire with a run to the Adelaide 2 semi-finals and the round of 16 at the Australian Open but he brings a 15-16 record into this tournament after suffering on the clay, with a run to the semi-finals at the Halle Open on grass at least stopping the rot before a first round exit at Wimbledon. World number 90 Pedro Cachin also lost in the first round at SW19 but the Argentine put in a valiant effort against eventual runner-up Novak Djokovic and he conceded just five games to Taro Daniel on Tuesday to look strong here. The 28-year-old will be pleased to be back on his favoured clay and a match in his legs already this week could see him start the stronger in this first encounter with RBA. The Spaniard should have enough to come through but backing Cachin to earn at least a set looks a shrewd way to avoid the result.
