Darja Vidmanova returns to Guadalajara with positive memories after making her WTA Tour main draw debut at the tournament last season. The Czech qualified and immediately recorded her first tour-level and top 100 victory by beating Alycia Parks. Her form has continued to improve in 2026, highlighted by an excellent run in Monterrey on the eve of the US Open last month. Vidmanova came through qualifying and went on to reach the quarter-finals, before a loss to Nikola Bartunkova. She was then beaten by Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the first-round at Flushing Meadows.
Janice Tjen also lost in round one at the US Open, falling to a straight sets defeat against Roland Garros champion Mirra Andreeva. Before that, the Indonesian reached the third-round in Cincinnati and won a match in Monterrey, recovering to beat Dayana Yastremska before a loss to Yuliia Starodubtseva. Tjen is currently ranked at 36 in the world, but she is yet to progress to the quarter-finals of an event this season.
Tjen brings greater variety and can change pace, but Vidmanova has the stronger weapons and could overwhelm her at times.
