USA were pushed extremely hard by USA in the semi-finals in a match that could’ve gone either way up until the fourth quarter, when Kara Lawson’s side stepped on the gas and powered past the Spanish side. Breanna Stewart led from the front with 16 points, whilst Aliyah Boston of the Indiana Fever also had a big game.
For France, their superstar stole the show in the last four as a 22-point-game from Gabby Williams helped them overwhelm Germany offensively and remain in control throughout the four quarters. Williams is a key WNBA player for the Golden State Valkyries and this French side look to her for inspiration at critical moments.
If anyone can stop USA, it would be France and their attack. The French can physically go toe-to-toe with the Americans and are capable of hitting deep shots to keep up with USA’s scoring power. But as has been the case with any opposition, it’s the depth of USA and their never-ending array of world class talent that sees them never drop their levels. The fourth quarter against Spain was proof of that.
