Belgium ensured an automatic passage into the quarter-finals after topping Group C with nine points from nine which saw them defeat the likes of Australia, Puerto Rico and Turkiye. Their ability to start strongly should be praised, with the Belgians having won the first quarter of each of their three games played. Their reward is an all-European battle with Germany, who have gotten better and better as this competition has gone on, most recently recording their highest score of the tournament in a 94-56 win over Korea Republic.
This has the potential to be a very high-scoring game with both teams having been excellent recently from an offensive point of view. But in terms of star players with a proven track record of clutching up for her country, look no further than Emma Meesseman. Belgium’s power forward has racked up two 20+ point games already in this competition and a match like this should bring the best out of her.
