Hungary vs Japan prediction
Whilst Hungary finished second-place in their group with two wins from three, just the one victory was enough for Japan to qualify in third-place of a tight Group A which saw the four nations involved separated by just one point. Japan’s 102-97 win over Mali, one of only three games across the entire group stage where a team put up over 100 points proved decisive in seeing them through.
The attacking presence of Japan across the court and their ability to put up big numbers like that, may be what gives them a slight edge over the Hungarians in what should be a very close game. Meanwhile, Hungary were more consistent scorers but when it comes to the knockout stage, scores in the seventies and low eighties may not be enough.
Hungary may have won one more game in Japan but one would argue that Japan had the tougher overall group. They have proven that a monster score is possible when it their best and when you consider the Japanese ceiling offensive, backing them to win out looks a smart move.
