Former world number three Grigor Dimitrov moved back up to 14th at the end of 2023 after capping off a serious upturn in form with a first Masters final since 2017, losing to Novak Djokovic at the Paris Masters. The 32-year-old looks ready to make waves with his renaissance form this year and he will be desperate to go toe-to-toe with Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals if they can each beat their Aussie underdogs in the quarters. 22-year-old Rinky Hijikata will break inside the top 70 on tour for the first time after an excellent comeback win over in-form Tomas Machac but he should find this version of Dimitrov a much steeper test. Hijikata looks set to enjoy a proper breakthrough this year after making the last 16 at the US Open but back Dimitrov to reach the semi-finals, probably in straight sets.
