THE PREDICTION

27-year-old Rebecca Sramkova will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of around 101st after beating Italian wildcard Giorgia Pedone in straight sets on Thursday, backing-up a spotless qualifying campaign. The Slovak looks a serious threat to 26th seed Katie Boulter on what is the Brit’s weakest, or least experienced, surface but Boulter’s overall form has seen vast improvements in 2024, with victory at the hardcourt San Diego 500 bettering her maiden title claimed in Nottingham on grass last summer. Boulter, also 27, lost from a set up to qualifier Robin Montgomery at this stage of Madrid two weeks ago but she played doubles alongside top clay-courter Marketa Vondrousova to gain some much-needed experience in these conditions. Given her momentum so far in Rome, take Sramkova to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.

TIP: REBECCA SRAMKOVA TO WIN A SET
