REBECCA SRAMKOVA VS AMANDA ANISIMOVA PREDICTION
22-year-old Amanda Anisimova famously reached the semi-finals here back in 2019, a few months after claiming her maiden WTA title at the Bogota Open on clay, but she has struggled to stay on tour in recent seasons, citing mental health struggles as the reason for her hiatus last year.
The American returned to tour looking refreshed at the start of 2024, stunning Liudmila Samsonova and Paula Badosa en-route to the round of 16 at the Australian Open, and she is well capable of something similar here despite bringing a three-match losing streak into the draw.
27-year-old Rebecca Sramkova enjoyed a huge run to the round of 16 at the Italian Open last time out, setting a career-high WTA world ranking of 89th. The Slovak still had to qualify this week, with her ranking points from Rome missing the cut-off point for Roland-Garros, and that sees her bring even more momentum into this first encounter with Anisimova.
Sramkova should be considered the favourite here and yet Anisimova’s ceiling is so high, particularly in these conditions, that reaching the second week would not be a surprise. The suitably cautious move is taking Anisimova to earn at least a set but it would be more sensible to leave this one alone altogether.
