Former world number one delighted Brisbane crowds with a dominant display against home hopeful Jason Kubler on Thursday, conceding just three games in his old customary bullish style. World number 55 Jordan Thompson was Nadal’s first opponent in that campaign in Paris, losing in straight sets as he did at the Paris Masters in their first encounter back in 2020, but he may never have a better chance of taking at least his first set.
