Former world number three Dominic Thiem conceded just four games to Ben Shelton in a, tentatively, encouraging result. The current world number 111 has struggled to regain confidence on court perhaps more than actual playing ability since returning form surgery but back-to-back wins in Estoril makes him a serious title contender this week on his favoured clay. World number 80 Quentin Halys stands a great chance at the upset here, though, after he stunned fourth seed Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets on Thursday. The Frenchman is in excellent form after reaching the round of 16 at the Miami Open last week via a huge upset over Alex de Minaur and he should be considered the slightest of favourites on that front despite the big name in front of him here. Back Halys to earn at least a set but leave this match out of an accumulator as Thiem continues to be something of an anomaly on tour.
