THE PREDICTION

World number 50 Yulia Putintseva continued her resurgent form with an impressive straight-sets victory over Yue Yuan on Wednesday. The former number 27 had spent much of the last two years struggling to make a decent dent on tour but a superb March saw her reach the round of 16 at Indian Wells and then the quarter-finals in Miami, stunning the likes of Madison Keys, Ekaterina Alexandrova and Liudmila Samsonova en-route.

World number eight Qinwen Zheng changed the course of her young career with an incredible run to the Australian Open final in January, although she did so without playing anyone ranked inside the top 50 before falling easily to Aryna Sabalenka. The 21-year-old claimed her biggest win in terms of rankings on clay last week in Stuttgart, ousting Sorana Cirstea before a three-set exit to eventual runner-up Marta Kostyuk, to suggest that she is improving after a drab spell but this is a tough test against Putintseva, who beat her in three sets on clay last summer at Roland-Garros. Back the Kazakh to earn at least a set to leave the result up to chance.

TIP: YULIA PUTINTSEVA TO WIN A SET
