THE PREDICTION

Former world number one Victoria Azarenka is a three-time former Miami Open champion, most recently claiming the Sunshine Double by winning Indian Wells and Miami back-to-back in 2016. The 34-year-old typically enjoyed her best tennis in the first-half of seasons, with back-to-back Grand Slam titles claimed at the Australian Open in 2012 and 2013, and she has looked in decent shape so far this year with encouraging runs to the semi-finals in Brisbane, round of 16 in Melbourne and the quarter-finals in Doha.

World number 67 Peyton Stearns is a tough draw, though, with the scrappy spirit and athleticism that will draw huge support from the home crowd in Miami. The 22-year-old reached the round of 16 at the US Open last summer to prove her credentials in these conditions and she took Aryna Sabalenka all the way to a deciding tiebreak at this stage of Indian Wells two weeks ago to look a serious threat. Back Azarenka to edge through outright, with three sets likelier than two, or consider taking Stearns to earn at least a set.

TIP: VICTORIA AZARENKA TO WIN
