Alina Korneeva vs Mananchaya Sawangkaew prediction
Alina Korneeva’s last tournament was at the US Open, where she lost in the first-round to Madison Keys. The 19-year-old had produced an excellent run earlier in the North American hard court swing in Toronto, coming through qualifying before reaching the round-of-16. Her run included an impressive 6-3 6-4 victory over Iva Jovic, before a defeat to Coco Gauff. Korneeva has climbed to a career high of number 81 in the world.
She plays Mananchaya Sawangkaew. The Thai player did win her first-round match at Flushing Meadows, following a win over Panna Udvardy. However, she was unable to go any further after a defeat to Leylah Fernandez. Immediately before New York, Sawangkaew advanced to the quarter-finals of the WTA 125 event in Philadelphia. She recovered from a set down to beat Sloane Stephens and then defeated Lizette Cabrera, before a loss to eventual champion Katie Volynets.
Korneeva leads the head-to-head 1-0, although their only previous meeting came at ITF level in 2022. Sawangkaew’s consistency and movement could make it difficult for Korneeva to dictate from the baseline, but she will be tough to stop if she recaptures her level from last month.
