Not many would’ve pegged Jamaica Kingsmen for a place in the final after losing their opening three group games. But their sister franchise Hyderabad Kingsmen had undertaken an identical journey in the Pakistan Super League earlier this year, losing their first four matches before recovering to make it all the way to the PSL final. Jamaica will be looking to go one better than Hyderabad though and win the final, where they will face Antigua & Barbuda Falcons.
Whilst this is Jamaica’s first year in the CPL, the Falcons are in their third year of existence and this represents by far their best season so far. They’ve peaked late, winning four of their last five games with the other washed out. The last time these two faced off was back on the opening night of the campaign, Antigua & Barbuda Falcons winning by two wickets off the last ball of the match.
Jamaica Kingsmen deserves huge credit for turning their season around and battling through the play-offs to reach the big dance. But how much they have left in the tank remains to be seen and their opponents have enjoyed some much-needed extra rest leading into the final.
