THE PREDICTION
Defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas was in control of his opening match against Benjamin Binzi on Tuesday before the Frenchman was forced to retire injured early-on. World number three Tsitsipas finished runner-up to Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open back in January but he has since struggled with fitness issues that saw him suffer early exits at his next three tournaments before coming in a little cold on clay here. The Greek is certainly one of the more comfortable clay-courters at the top of the game but this is still a potential upset waiting to happen against in-form Nicolas Jarry, who made it 10-2 on clay this season with an excellent comeback over Alexei Popyrin on Wednesday. The Chilean did Tsitsipas a huge favour by ousting Borna Coric from the draw in the first round, a player that has troubled the Greek over the last 12 months, but he should be considered a genuine threat to the title defence here.
Tsitsipas has at least played two doubles matches this week alongside his brother Petros but backing him to edge this outright looks the suitably cautious move given recent form. A one-off on Jarry to earn at least a set could end up the shrewd move here, particularly considering the Chilean won their only previous encounter back in 2019.
