THE PREDICTION

World number 72 Mayar Sherif grabbed her best win in some time with a huge straight-sets upset of Stuttgart runner-up Marta Kostyuk on Friday, backing up a tight comeback over Lauren Davis on Wednesday. The Egyptian had brought a concerning nine-match losing streak into Madrid but she is a confidence player with a real affinity for the conditions here, reaching the quarter-finals this time last season in a career-best run that saw her take a set from eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka before defeat.

Sherif looks to have come up against that quality of opponent much earlier this time around, however, as world number four Elena Rybakina looks dialled in and ready to compete for the title this fortnight. A straight-sets victory over Lucia Bronzetti on Friday made it five wins on the spin after she claimed the Stuttgart title last week, stunning two-time defending champion Iga Swiatek before ousting the aforementioned Kostyuk. This could prove a tricky test for the Kazakh but back her to come through in two all the same.

TIP: ELENA RYBAKINA TO WIN 2-0
