World number 22 Magda Linette enjoyed the best form of her career this time last season, producing a remarkable run to the semi-finals at the Australian Open that she has since struggled to live up to. The 31-year-old stands to drop down the rankings like a stone after Melbourne late this month if she cannot improve quickly but she started 2024 with a solid straight-sets victory over Cristina Bucsa on Wednesday whilst Kasatkina impressed in a similar result over Marta Kostyuk.
