THE PREDICTION
Former world number seven Madison Keys can boast a remarkably one-sided lead in her head-to-head with world number eight Daria Kasatkina with eight wins to the Russian’s one after most recently ousting her in San Diego last October. 25-year-old Kasatkina beat Keys in three sets at Melbourne 1 early last season to claim her sole victory over the American but there is certainly scope for another here on her favoured clay as all nine of their previous matches have come on hardcourts. Kasatkina claimed her maiden WTA title here back in 2017 but both players have lifted the trophy here as Keys won her second of two finals on this court in 2019. A three-set victory over in-form Magda Linette suggests that Kasatkina, who is yet to drop a set this week, can earn at least a set here and that looks the best way to avoid siding with either player in what could prove a thriller. Keys’ record is very convincing but the conditions probably suit the Russian best here.
