We can tentatively expect a sudden upturn in form from 21-year-old Lorenzo Musetti after an impressive 7-6, 6-0 victory over Miomir Kecmanovic on Tuesday, with the Italian needing a big confidence boost. The world number 21 claimed his first ATP title on clay at the Hamburg Open last summer at Carlos Alcaraz’ expense but he has struggled to find his best level this year since suffering an injury in the final of the United Cup. Fellow Italian Luca Nardi beat wildcard Valentin Vacherot to win on his Monte-Carlo debut and the 19-year-old deserves his place here after beating tough opposition in qualifying. This time last week it would not have been too much of a stretch to suggest that Nardi could cause an upset against his compatriot on clay but Musetti should be noticeably better on Wednesday for a top win over Kecmanovic. The sensible pick remains taking Musetti to win outright, though, as a player who sometimes struggles playing the clear favourite.
