World number 55 Lorenzo Sonego came back from a set down to beat Dusan Lajovic on Monday and the Italian should be considered a dark horse for a deep run here in Stockholm. The 28-year-old is capable of much better tennis than his current ranking suggests and he is a strong all-courter when in form, with a particularly surprising record on indoor hardcourts. World number 109 Pavel Kotov qualified handily this weekend before coming back from a set down to oust seventh seed Christopher Eubanks on Tuesday. The Russian took Alexander Zverev to three sets before defeat at this stage of the Chengdu Open last month and he is well capable of springing a surprise if Sonego’s recent erratic form continues.
