THE PREDICTION
World number four Elena Rybakina looks set for an intriguing final clash with Aryna Sabalenka on Sunday but she must not underestimate 19-year-old Linda Noskova, who upset rising star Mirra Andreeva in straight sets on Friday. Noskova brought a career-high WTA world ranking of 40th into Brisbane as she approaches the anniversary of her excellent Australian swing last season, where she finished runner-up to Sabalenka in Adelaide before a run to the round of 16 in Melbourne, and she can recover those soon-to-be lost ranking points if she makes the final from this second meeting.
Rybakina beat the Czech in straight sets at Roland-Garros last summer to suggest that will be too steep of a task but Noskova has impressed this week whilst going under the radar whilst Rybakina has barely been challenged, conceding just seven games after Anastasia Potapova retired injured in their quarter-final on Friday. The suitably cautious move is taking the Kazakh to win outright but it seems a reasonable call to back Rybakina to take it in two.
