World number 34 Lesia Tsurenko has enjoyed a quite remarkable renaissance period over the past two seasons at 34 years old and a first WTA title since 2018 would be the icing on the cake. The Ukrainian finished runner-up to Lin Zhu at the Hua Hin Championships back in February and she has come close on a few occasions but this looks as good an opportunity as ever in Monastir. The fourth seed beat Chloe Paquet in straight sets to get her campaign underway but world number 92 Claire Liu should provide a tougher challenge after recent improvements on tour. The 23-year-old took Jessica Pegula to three sets before defeat in the quarter-finals of the Korea Open last week and a straight-sets victory over Emina Bektas was a solid way to start her Jasmin Open campaign on Tuesday. Tsurenko beat the American in three sets in their first tour-level meeting at Wimbledon back in July and she can be backed, tentatively, to come through the outright winner here.
