THE PREDICTION

World number 35 Laslo Djere continued his excellent form with a very impressive comeback over Tomas Machac on Friday, edging out the Czech in the second-set tiebreak before capitalising in the third. The 28-year-old has steadily improved since the start of the grass swing to find some of his best form on tour and he came close to emulating his most prestigious title when he finished runner-up to Alexander Zverev at the Hamburg 500 in July as the Rio 500 champion in 2019. Former world number six Gael Monfils beat in-form Adrian Mannarino in straight sets on Friday to mean business after a solid week so far in Stockholm. The 37-year-old has been vastly impressive since his comeback, particularly at the two Masters events in August, and he will likely be the popular man to back from here on in Stockholm after home hopeful Elias Ymer crashed out.

Monfils won his 11th title as recently as last January and he is playing about as well as he did then in Adelaide. Back the Frenchman to win at least a set from this first encounter with Djere as the likelier of two very capable victors. The winner of the Stockholm Open looks likely to come from this semi-final.
