THE PREDICTION

World number 100 Alexandre Muller finished runner-up to Roberto Carballes Baena at the Marrakech Open this time last month via some excellent wins over Richard Gasquet and Lorenzo Musetti. The 26-year-old has since struggled to match the intensity that saw him set a career-high ATP world ranking of 94th but this first meeting with a still rehabilitating Kyle Edmund is certainly the Frenchman’s to lose. 28-year-old Edmund comes in to the main draw on a protected ranking after missing the best part of two years on tour with various injuries and knee surgeries. The Brit was never totally confident on clay in the first place but he did take his first set of the season from Marc-Andrea Huesler in Munich last month to suggest there are tentative signs of improvement. Back Muller to win outright with three sets a distinct possibility.
