Danielle Collins lay down a real statement of intent with a dominant 6-1 7-5 win over defending champion Iga Swiatek. 

Much will be made of the Pole’s recent struggles, but the American once again demonstrated her perhaps underrated quality on clay to suggest she can go far in this tournament. 

Svitolina will provide a different type of counter punching challenge and is in such fine form that she is knocking on the door of the top ten again.

The Ukrainian recently lifted a title in Rouen on the dirt and has won 13 of her last 14 matches. 

Collins leads the head-to-head 2-1 but it was Svitolina who prevailed 6-2 6-4 when they met at Indian Wells earlier this year. 

It is a tough call and could well go the distance with Collins having the greater firepower.
