World number two Sabalenka should take plenty of positives from her defeat to Iga Swiatek in the Madrid Open final last weekend, a three-set modern classic that saw the pair find their very best tennis, as she put some recent poor form behind her to beat both Danielle Collins and Elena Rybakina to get there. The 25-year-old was insatiable in her pursuit of a second-successive Australian Open title back in January but she lost that intensity until the second week of Madrid, suggesting she is ready to peak just in time for a serious assault on Roland-Garros.
