21-year-old Jiri Lehecka comes into the Astana Open at a career-high ATP world ranking of 29th after excelling on hardcourts all season long, most impressively reaching the quarter-finals at the Australian Open back in January. The Czech recently finished runner-up to Sebastian Baez at the Winston-Salem Open and then bounced back from an early exit in New York to lead an exceptionally young Czechia side to Davis Cup Finals qualification with three impressive wins two weeks ago. Former world number 65 Egor Gerasimov has struggled with a series of injuries over the last few seasons that have seriously hampered his form. The Belarussian is currently ranked outside the top 600 but he proved his worth in these conditions with a straight-sets victory over Bernabe Zapata Miralles on Thursday. Gerasimov beat some tough foes in qualifying to earn his place here but Lehecka should be able to bounce through to the quarter-finals in straight sets.
