The 26-year-old has already claimed two WTA titles this season at Adelaide 2 and the Abu Dhabi Open and she is the defending champion here in Charleston with a great chance at lifting her eighth career title on Sunday. World number three Jessica Pegula remains the slight favourite here on sheer consistency after she ousted Paula Badosa in straight sets on Friday but the American has never take a set from Bencic, let alone beat the Swiss, who leads their head-to-head 3-0. The pair last met in the third round of the US Open two years ago and whilst its is true that Pegula has evolved as a player since then Bencic has also improved this season. Given the Swiss’ record, back Bencic to earn at least a set here to avoid picking a winner outright.
