THE PREDICTION
Former world number six Felix Auger-Aliassime went off-script on Tuesday with a remarkable straight-sets upset of Barcelona champion Casper Ruud, extending his spotless run of straight-sets wins to four on what has typically been his weakest surface by far. The 23-year-old has struggled for form on any surface for the past two seasons, despite a brief patch of respite late last year, but beating Ruud on clay had previously looked well out of his reach and that makes this a very interesting third clash with Jannik Sinner.
World number two Sinner lost each of their previous two meetings, including here in the round of 16 two years ago when the Canadian was at the peak of his powers, and he comes in off a tough fight-back from a set down to oust Karen Khachanov on Wednesday. The 22-year-old has lost just twice this season, in the semi-finals of both Indian Wells and the Monte-Carlos Masters to eventual champions Carlos Alcaraz and Stefanos Tsitsipas, respectively, but he will have to beat a resurgent Auger-Aliassime for the first time to maintain that level. Sinner has played well enough this season to make backing him in straight sets a reasonable risk but the cautious outright option is advisable here.
TIP: JANNIK SINNER TO WIN
