THE PREDICTION
World number 94 Thanasi Kokkinakis came back from a set down to beat Zizou Bergs on Thursday to make the most of his second chance as a lucky loser after he fell to Benoit Paire in qualifying. The 26-year-old is capable of tennis far better than his current ranking suggests but after a full season on tour without injury he would have expected some better runs at tournaments like Miami. World number nine Hubert Hurkacz won his first Masters title here back in 2021 and he claimed a sixth ATP title last month at the Open 13 in Marseille. The Pole, also 26, is one of the more erratic top performers on tour but he should be feeling confident on his return to Miami and he has all the tools required to combat Kokkinakis’ powerful game. Back Hurkacz to edge through outright here or alternatively take the match to see at least a tiebreak between two hard-hitters in their first meeting on tour.
