Gregoire Barrere and Alexander Bublik played each other on indoor hardcourts twice in quick succession back in February, with Barrere taking their first encounter in Montpellier in three sets and Bublik returning the favour in two in Marseille. World number 36 Bublik received a bye to the round of 16 as the third seed at the European Open but he brings a six-match losing streak into the contest stretching back to his epic five-set defeat to Andrey Rublev in the round of 16 at Wimbledon. World number 72 Gregoire Barrere beat Daniel Elahi Galan in straight sets on Monday to get a foothold in Antwerp and that should help steady him for a clear opportunity for an not-so upset here. The pair share a 2-2 head-to-head record but those matter little where Bublik is concerned. The Kazakh burst into life to prove his capabilities with a first ATP 500 title at the Halle Open in June but he remains one of the streakiest players on tour who could well go the rest of the year without a win.
