THE PREDICTION
This is one of the tougher doubles matches to call this week but there is a reasonable chance that it may not go ahead at all if Greece, most likely, manage to seal the two singles matches. If the tie does come in at 1-1 it is likely that Maria Sakkari takes the early lead against Angelique Kerber, still at the start of a long comeback trail from maternity leave, before Alexander Zverev wrestles a first win in three from Stefanos Tsitsipas and that would, arguably, hand the momentum to Germany. Sakkari and Tsitsipas, however, will probably receive the majority of the neutral support in Sydney as two very popular tour favourites but they have yet to win a doubles match this week against Zverev and Kerber’s 1-1 record. The German pair came very close to making that 2-0 against a seasoned French partnership on Monday, just missing out 10-12 in the deciding tiebreak, so consider backing them to win at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
