World number eight Maria Sakkari endured an overall frustrating season in 2023 but the Greek should see it is progress made, in the end, after finally winning her second WTA title at the Guadalajara Masters. The 28-year-old should thrive in this atmosphere with a strong Greek contingent likely to create something of a partisan atmosphere in this clash with Chile and she should be more than capable of taking this mis-match in straight sets after a much-needed break. World number 671 Daniele Seguel struggled to get on the scoreboard against Leylah Fernandez in her United Cup debut and she should suffer just as much against Sakkari, although it will be interesting to see how she fares against a totally different opponent. The 31-year-old came very close to forcing a huge shock in the doubles against Canada and that could spur her on against Sakkari’s notoriously fragile mentality but back the Greek to start 2024 with gusto in a straight-sets win.
