GIOVANNI MPETSHI PERRICARD VS ALEXANDER BUBLIK PREDICTION
20-year-old Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard will break inside the top 100 on tour for the first time after passing a really tough test on clay, ousting cult hero and compatriot Hugo Gaston in three sets on Thursday. The youngster has been on tour for a hot minute but he suddenly faces world number 19 Alexander Bublik in another pressure situation after defeat to the eventual champion in the quarter-finals of the Antwerp Open late last season, his previous best run.
26-year-old Bublik needed three sets to oust Mpetshi Perricard that day and he came back from a set down on Thursday to squeak past Pavel Kotov to suggest there is scope for a huge upset here in Lyon. The Kazakh is far from his best on clay but he has developed a real killer instinct for the latter stages of tournaments at this level over the past 12 months, with four of his six semi-finals won since the start of 2023.
Back Bublik to spoil the party but three sets seem likelier than two with Mpetshi Perricard enjoying this partisan crowd.
