THE PREDICTION
23-year-old Facundo Diaz Acosta set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 52nd this week after a round of 16 exit to eventual champion Sebastian Baez at the Rio Open. The Argentine has enjoyed a superb breakthrough season so far on tour, taking Taylor Fritz to five sets at the Australian Open to announce his arrival before fast-tracking to a maiden ATP title on home soil at the Buenos Aires Open, with victory over Nicolas Jarry in that final setting out his stall as a title challenger here in Santiago. World number 101 Pedro Martinez has enjoyed some strong results on the Challenger circuit over the last few months but this looks too steep of a challenge against an up-and-comer in insatiable form. A straight-sets victory over Francesco Passaro on Monday should see the Spaniard competitive and Dias Acosta’s tight comeback over fellow Argentine Pedro Cachin suggests three sets are a distinct possibility here. Back Diaz Acosta to win outright.
TIP: FACUNDO DIAZ ACOSTA TO WIN
