THE PREDICTION
This should be an entertaining clash between top seed Elise Mertens and a seemingly resurgent Daria Saville, who has won three matches on the spin for the first time since July to look ready to climb back up the rankings. The former number 20 is currently ranked at 195th after a long injury absence that’s he struggled to return from last season but comeback wins over Anna Blinkova, Lin Zhu and a straight-sets upset of former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin this week puts her working level firmly towards the top 40. World number 29 Mertens looks the favourite on experience, though, as a hugely reliable player at this level. The former number 12 is yet to drop a set this week, in similar fashion to her recent title-winning campaign at the Jasmin Open back in October, and she beat Saville comfortably the week before that to take a 4-2 lead in their had-to-head. Back the Belgian to win at least a set, as she has done in each of their last five matches, as the likelier of two capable finalists.
TIP: ELISE MERTENS TO WIN A SET
