Former world number three Elina Svitolina claimed her first WTA title as a mother, and a first since 2021, with a straight-sets victory over Anna Blinkova at the Strasbourg Open. The 28-year-old will move back inside the top 200 to more than halve her ranking from last week and she takes a hugely beneficial four-match winning streak on clay into this likely thriller against Martina Trevisan. 29-year-old Trevisan reached the semi-finals here last summer before defeat to runner-up Coco Gauff and she made the quarter-finals back in 2020. The Italian failed to defend her Rabat Open title this week but recent runs to the quarter-finals of the Miami Open and round of 16 at the Madrid Open suggest she can be competitive this fortnight if she survives this tough opener. It is difficult to say how well Svitolina can recover from her first full week of tennis since returning from maternity leave but winning streaks are priceless coming into major tournaments. Trevisan has never lost a first round match at Roland-Garros and backing her to earn at least a set seems the sensible way to avoid picking a winner from this first meeting between the two.
